Director Identification Numbers (DIN): Important Changes from 5 April 2022

Until now - and from 1 November 2021 - newly appointed directors had 28 days to apply for their DIN.

This will now be the standard process for director appointments moving forward, and means that you will need your DIN before you set-up any new company registrations of which you will be a director.

What if I was appointed as a director before 5 April 2022?

If you were appointed as a director between 1 November 2021 and 4 April 2022 you have 28 days from the date of your appointment to apply for your DIN.

If you were appointed as a director on or before 31 October 2021, you have until 30 November 2022 to apply for your DIN.

Failure to satisfy the new requirements may result in both civil and criminal penalties so it is important that you meet the government’s application requirements by the application deadlines.
